Initially, the old CompTIA A+ 220-902exams were to be termed obsolete, though not its knowledge, on 31st January 2019. Despite that, there has been a change in that. As of now, these exams will be available until 31st July 2019. Therefore, until that day, the new CompTIA A+ 220-902exams (220-1001 and 220-1002) will not be the only CompTIA A+ 220-902certification exams.
Unfortunately, that is not possible. If you start with the CompTIA A+220-901, you must do CompTIA A+220-902, the same works for the new exams as well. The worst case scenario is if you do CompTIA A+ 220-902220-901 and can’t complete the CompTIA A+220-902 before the July deadline. If that happens, the CompTIA A+220-901 exam will be a waste of time.
Nevertheless, you can use that knowledge to do the CompTIA A+220-1001 and CompTIA A+220-1002 to get the certification. That is not a new thing since time immemorial; one can only get a certification after doing two exams of the same series and pass them.
